From Lochlea – Commissioned in 2018; this is their first core release and only their third release in total, the first two being small batches of one off limited editions.
Lochlea is an independently owned distillery overseen by Laphroaig’s ex Distillery Manager.
They grow all their own barley and draw their water on site. They are also situated on land which was once a farm – one that none other than Robert Burns lived at and worked on 1777-1784
Tasting Notes
Nose: Our Barley opens up with an initial burst of Pear syrup and fruit bon bons, followed but hints of cinnamon, gentle cardamom and black pepper. It then moves into warm cut grass and straw notes and finishes with a dash of fresh zesty marmalade.
Palate: Grassy notes first and golden syrup then huge peppery notes and rye bread. It then shifts to macadamia nuts and cream soda.
Finish: Medium length with a lovely lasting orange beeswax note on the palate.
